STANY Annual Meeting Highlights Industry Leadership and Timely Market Structure Discussions

STANY members gathered virtually on July 21 for the Association's 2026 Annual Meeting, marking the close of President Brian Kennedy's successful two-year term and the beginning of a new chapter under incoming President Bill Cody.

The Annual Meeting provided members with an opportunity to review the accomplishments of the past year, welcome STANY's newly elected Officers and Directors, and recognize the dedicated Board members whose terms have concluded. As always, the meeting reflected the strength of STANY's volunteer leadership and the commitment of members who continue to shape the future of the organization.

Following the business portion of the meeting, attendees were treated to two insightful conversations on some of the most important issues facing today's markets.

The first session featured JJ Kinahan and Bill Cody of Cboe Global Markets, who explored the rapid evolution of prediction markets. Their discussion examined the growing interest in these products, the regulatory landscape, and the potential role prediction markets may play in the future of investing and risk management.

The second conversation focused on one of the most closely watched regulatory developments in U.S. equities—the proposed rescission of SEC Rule 611, the Order Protection Rule. Mark Davies, CEO of S3, and Mehmet Kinak, Global Head of Equity Trading at T. Rowe Price, shared thoughtful perspectives on how the proposal could affect market quality, competition among trading venues, execution practices, and investors. The discussion highlighted the complexity of the issue and underscored the importance of continued industry dialogue as the SEC considers potential changes.

The meeting may be viewed for a limited time HERE.

The day concluded with STANY's traditional Welcome New Board Networking Reception at Haswell Green's, where members, guests, and incoming Board members gathered to celebrate the Association's new leadership and reconnect with colleagues in a relaxed setting.

STANY extends its sincere thanks to our distinguished speakers for sharing their expertise, to our outgoing Board members for their service, and to all our members who continue to support the Association's mission of advancing education, advocacy, and professional connections within New York's securities industry.

We look forward to another exciting year under President Bill Cody's leadership and hope to see everyone at our upcoming programs and events.

From Our President

Greetings, everyone.
As I stand here today, I can’t help but reflect on what an incredible honor it has been to serve as President of the Security Traders Association of New York.
When I accepted this role, I knew it would be a significant responsibility. What I didn’t fully appreciate was just how rewarding it would be. Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside some of the most talented, dedicated, and generous professionals in our industry. Serving this organization has truly been one of the highlights of my career.
First and foremost, I want to thank our members.
STANY is only as strong as the people who make up this organization. Every member who attends an event, joins a committee, mentors a young professional, shares an idea, or simply shows up to support our mission plays a role in making STANY what it is. This association has remained relevant and respected for generations because of your commitment, and I am incredibly grateful for your continued support.
I’m especially proud of what we accomplished together during my tenure.
We hosted not one, but two record-breaking conferences, bringing together more attendees, speakers, sponsors, and industry leaders than ever before. Those events weren’t successful because of any one person—they were successful because so many people worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make them happen. They showcased exactly what STANY represents: collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to moving our industry forward.
I’m equally excited about the continued growth of our Emerging Leaders group. Watching the next generation become more engaged, build relationships, and begin taking on leadership roles gives me tremendous confidence in STANY’s future. Investing in young professionals isn’t just important—it’s essential. They are the future of our markets and of this organization, and I know STANY is in great hands.
None of these accomplishments would have been possible without an outstanding Board of Governors.
To each member of the Board, thank you for your countless volunteer hours, your thoughtful ideas, your guidance, and your willingness to serve. Leadership is never about one individual. It’s about a team that challenges each other, supports each other, and works toward a common goal. I have been fortunate to work alongside an exceptional group of leaders, and I sincerely appreciate every one of you.
I’d also like to recognize our committee members, volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who quietly contributes behind the scenes. Much of what you do happens without recognition, but it never goes unnoticed. STANY succeeds because of people who are willing to give their time for the benefit of others.
President John F. Kennedy challenged Americans to ask not what their country could do for them, but what they could do for their country. For generations, STANY has thrived because members have embraced that same spirit—giving their time, sharing their expertise, and investing in our profession. Thank you for allowing me to be one of those volunteers.
As I pass the gavel to our next President, I do so with complete confidence. STANY is strong. Our membership is engaged. Our Emerging Leaders are growing. Our conferences continue to set new standards. Most importantly, our organization remains committed to the values that have defined it for nearly nine decades.
Thank you for placing your trust in me. Thank you for your friendship, your encouragement, and your support throughout this past year. It has truly been an honor and a privilege to serve as your President.
I look forward to continuing to serve STANY—not because I have the title, but because I believe in this organization, in its mission, and in all of you.
Thank you. Here’s to an even brighter future for STANY.

STANY Talks

Crypto to Tokenized Securities: Wall Street's Infrastructure for Digital Markets

Wednesday, September 16, 12:30 - 1:30PM ET

Market infrastructure in the United States is being updated to support crypto assets, spanning both cryptocurrency tokens and tokenized securities. Clearing, custody, settlement, and trade execution capabilities for crypto assets are now available within the regulated securities framework, and DTCC is actively developing the infrastructure to tokenize traditional securities. For securities industry professionals, these changes determine how firms will access digital markets, what workflows will look like, and which functions can run on existing brokerage infrastructure rather than new systems.

This session brings together Prometheum Capital, an SEC-registered, FINRA-member broker-dealer authorized to provide custody, clearing, and settlement for crypto assets, a member of DTCC's tokenization group, and other participants in the transition of electronic to digital markets, to walk through what has changed and what it means in practice.

Participants:

· Moderator: Marc Nichols, Prometheum - Director, Business Development

· Aaron Kaplan, Prometheum - founder and co-CEO

· To be announced DTCC tokenization group executive

· Other speakers TBA

Additional details and Registration Links will follow.
